Dazed and Confused is a movie by Richard Linklater. It captures’ the dream of most every high school kid past and present. Based in 1976, or the “Golden Years” as I call them. To me Dazed and Confused should be one of the top movies of all time, because it not only is funny but is educational, showing the affect of drugs and alcohol. The character had a big end of school party planned, but it got canceled when the guy hosting it, his parents didn’t go away for their week-end trip. Even though their party plans are canceled, they still find a way to have a good time. “It’s the night they’d never forget, if only they could remember.

Mr. Allan Carter
The Blackville Talon
Dear Mr. Carter,
I am applying for the position of a writer or reporter for sports, for the Blackville Talon. I think you should hire me as a reporter, because I’m not shy to talk to people I don’t know, I’m not afraid to voice my opinion, and I know about sports, because I play them my self.
I’m writing to you to apply for a job at The Blackville Talon. I would like to have the job as a writer or reporter for the sports section of the news paper.
I could offer The Blackville Talon my spirit, not fearing the people, not being shy and being able to voice my opinion. You should the hire me because I think I could really befit the news paper. People that know me know that I’m not afraid of arguing my points. I’m not afraid to talk to people and ask them questions.
I play hockey for the Renous House Team, I play baseball/softball in the summer on my spare time. I watch different types of motorsports all the time. I usually know the jist of what’s going on in the sports world.
Thanks-you for taking the time to read my letter. I hope that you will consider me for an interview. I am available for an interview at anytime that is convenient for you.
Sincerely,Braden ClarkEnclosure

Their story. Their words
The Freedom Writers, 2007, is based on the true story of Erin Gruwell. It is a MTV Films and Paramount Pictures, starring Hilary Swank, Patrick Dempsey, April L. Hernandez, and Jason Finn. It is directed by Richard LaGravenese.
The movie is about a teacher starting out at a new school, she gets grades 9-10. These students are looked upon by the school as reject, they don’t want to be there and everyone feels the school would be a better place without them. The students grow up in a lower class community; they grew up knowing gangs and learned a lot from them. Their attitude is carried into the classroom, making it hard for Mrs. Gruwell, or “Mrs. G”.
The Freedom Writers reminded me of the movie The Gridiron Gang because it is very similar. The Gridiron Gang, stars Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson as Sean Porter. Sean works at a prison for youth. Most of the inmates at the prison are from either the gang called “the 88’s” or the gang called “the 95’s”. The gangs are constantly getting arrested, getting sent to this youth prison, then getting out again and getting sent back, everything keeps repeating. Sean sees that the kids have no discipline or no respect for nobody. Sean deals with the same type of people as Erin Gruwell. They both deal with gangs, and they are both trying to help them. Mrs. Gruwell helps them by letting them express their feeling by writing them as Sean lets them express their feelings through foot ball. They learn the importance of a team, and working together. Sean changes the lives of the kids, most moving on with a better life.
Hilary Swank’s acting is very well done, playing the part of Mrs. Erin Gruwell. You really feel that her part was made for her; she’s gets into character so well. I felt sorry for her at the first of the movie because she portrayed herself as this woman that could not handle the class room. As the movie progressed she gets more “back bone” and starts putting the students in their places.
What I got from the theme of this is movie is that no matter what you face and no matter what people tell you, you can accomplish anything you want to.

Dodge City
“Sure is quiet herein this town, aint it grandpa.”
“Sure is Son.”
“Wonder what they do for excitement around here.”
“Ha-ha, sit around and watch the cows get fat.”
‘Sure is a small town tho’, aint it.”
“Sure is. You hungry, want something to eat?”
“Sure Grandpa, were we gonna’ go?”
“How’s Mason & Daly sound?”
"Sounds good.”
Grandpa parked the wagon. Me and him walked into the Mason & Daly. We sat at a little table off to the side. He told me to order what ever I wanted to have for breakfast. The barmaid asked what I’d like, and I said “Bacon and eggs and pancakes.” Grandpa nodded and he said he’d have the same, with out the pancakes. He also told the barmaid to bring us some butter milk to.
After we finished, he called the barmaid over, and whispered something in her ear. She returned with a bottle of Wiser Whiskey and two shot glasses. She set one down in front of me and 1 in front of him. She filled them both up, then left walked back to behind the bar.
“What are these for, Grandpa?” I asked
He replied, “when your dad was about your age, I give him his first drink of whiskey. It’s a family tradition. Fathers have been giving their sons a drink of whiskey for the first time, for more generations than you can count. It’s to initiate being a man. I’m just sorry your father can’t be here to do it with you.”
I drank the first shot. It went down hard. The second wasn’t as bad, and the third was the best out of the three.
“Thanks Grandpa.”
“No problem son. Now you’re a man.”
Just then a group of men walked through the door. They were tough, mean, ugly, and smelt of cheap stale whiskey and sweat.
“Don’t look at them son, they’ll only cause trouble.”
“What you look-in at boy,” said one of the men.
“He’s not looking at nothing Red. Just leave him alone, we can’t afford no trouble in this town” said another man, “He don’t mean no trouble folks, he’s just a little edgy sometimes.”
“What you mean “Edgy” Rusty”
“Nothin man, just don’t cause any trouble here.”
“Would you like to step out in the Street, Rusty? You yellow belly coward.”
“No since is there, Red?”
Grandpa grabbed my arm and said “we better go son,” as he laid some money on the table.
We ran out the door, as reached the wagon, we heard gun shots, and we hurried out of town, never looking back. We heard later on that Red was shot and killed by Rusty, and that he was to be hung the following Wednesday. We never went back to Dodge City again.
